Donald has a lone victory, but his consistency and overall No. 1 ranking coupled with a win and a FedEx Cup crown would almost assuredly make the difference. Bradley is the only player in the field who won a major championship this year, and that helps him stand out among the two-win players.

Woods' first full year was 1997 and prior to last year he was PGA Player of the Year in all but three seasons -- 1998, 2004 and 2008. Mark O'Meara won two majors in 1998, Vijay Singh won nine times including a major in 2004 and Padraig Harrington won two majors in 2008 -- a year when Woods won four times in just six events and missed the last half of the season due to injury.

Going back to the inception of the award, known as the Jack Nicklaus Award, in 1990, only four times has the honor gone to a player with just two victories, and in three of those instances, the player won a major.

"But he's having a good day. Hopefully, we'll be paired tomorrow. That will be a little interesting, I guess. Maybe some thoughts here or there will come back and forth."

The Tour Championship is more about memories, however. Along with this being the end of the FedEx Cup, there's another cup on Bradley's mind. He is not a lock to be a captain's pick for the Presidents Cup, despite having won twice this year, including a major. U.S. captain Fred Couples has said he would consider the Tour Championship as one last audition.

Bradley could not have asked for a better start. He holed a bunker shot from across the green on his second hole to fire up the fans, most of whom now know his name. After a sloppy three-putt bogey on the eighth, he hammered a 3-wood from 281 yards that rolled past the hole at No. 9 and set up a two-putt birdie, then really put it together on the back nine. He had a pair of short birdie putts, along with a two-putt birdie on the 15th and was feeling the good vibes from a month ago.

He is a long shot to win the FedEx Cup -- especially with Donald playing well -- but the Presidents Cup is right in front of him, and Bradley feels it.

Unlike Wie, who was touted from grade school on as "the next Tiger Woods," Thompson is only now beginning to catch the general public's attention. But she is personable and photogenic, and her deals with Cobra-Puma Golf and Red Bull could help the LPGA expand its appeal with that all-important youth market.

Just look at what Rickie Fowler is doing for the men's side. Fowler is in only his second year as a professional, but kids are showing up at tournaments in droves wearing his flat-billed Puma caps and trademark orange shirts.

"I want women's golf to be more well-known and to be out there. It is amazing to watch how the girls play and how low they shoot," Thompson said. "There's a lot of great young players coming up and on tour. Fans just need to see it."
